December in the Jazz Bars and Jazz Clubs in Paris

What's on in December in the jazz bars and jazz cafes of Paris?  Music all over the city with so many different styles and approaches.

December 11th the Musee de Quai Branly offers the next concert in their series 'Blue Indigo' - Mike Reed's 'People's Places and Things'.

Here's Mike's group

If you're looking for a more traditional approach then le Petit Journal de Montparnasse is offering a selection of different styles - Dixieland, Big Band, Delta Jazz - all served up with the offer of either a full dinner and concert or a drink and the show.   They are shuttered from the 24th till the 28th of December.

If you want to get out of the centre of town and check out a lovely jazz venue the you might want to see Vincent Courtois and Louis Sclavis, at the Atelier du Plateau.  I had the pleasure of performing there a few years ago and it was a lovely quirky intimate space. Vincent is on Dec 17th, and it's only 12 euros.

Here is Louis Sclavis in Vienna

If you want to check out one of the downtown clubs, the Duc Des Lombards has a fine list of players.  I'll probably check out Tamir Hendleman on the 13th of December.  This Tel Aviv pianist represents a new generation of Israeli jazzmen and in this video he has one amazing touch

And finally, for the Paris Gypsy Jazz fans, there is a high profile concert at the Salle Pleyel, 'No El Manouche a Pleyel', on the 22nd of December at 8pm.  It features, for the real enthusiast, the great-grandson of Django Reinhardt himself, playing up his own version of the family's musical heritage.  Tickets are 45 or 60 euros.

Here is a very young Levis working out his chops with some friends

The concert also features the slightly more mature Thomas Dutronc.

and of course, if none of these please you - then check out our ">complete clubs listings and keep an eye out on the blog, I'll be putting more choices up in the coming days, and I'll have a listing for jazz clubs and bars in Paris in January 2011.
